Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum export quantity for Indian coffee?+
Green coffee is typically exported in 60 kg jute bags, with minimum commercial orders starting at 5โ10 MT (83โ166 bags). For specialty/single-origin lots, smaller lots of 1โ2 MT are available at premium prices. All coffee exports must be routed through Coffee Board of India registered exporters.
Is registration with the Coffee Board of India mandatory for export?+
Yes. All coffee exporters must be registered with the Coffee Board of India and hold a valid RCMC (Registration-cum-Membership Certificate). Coffee Board also conducts quality certification and issues phytosanitary certificates required by importing countries.
What makes Indian coffee different from Brazilian or Colombian coffee?+
Indian coffee is unique due to shade-grown cultivation (lower acidity, sweeter notes), the monsoon processing technique (Monsoon Malabar), and co-growing with spices like cardamom and pepper which add subtle flavor complexity. Indian Arabica from Coorg and Chikkamagaluru is comparable to Central American specialty origins in cup quality.
